2022 Annual Report

2022 Annual Report

  • Publishing in social media means publishing a reference in Facebook at the New Progressive Alliance, Leftist Third Party and Independent Candidates, Green Party Discussion, Truth Bomb Activists, Progressive Perspectives, and “Progressives, Real Greens, and Socialists of Colorado. On Facebook we own the sites at New Progressive Alliance and Leftist Third Party and Independent Candidate. Because of problems with privacy and censorship on Facebook, we also publish on Twitter which we also own.
  • At the end of 2022 we had the following number of people following the social media sites where we publish.

New Progressive Alliance – 1,400

Leftist Third Party and Independent Candidates -  2,100

Green Party Discussion - 148

Truth Bomb Activists - 417

Progressive Perspectives - 596

Progressives, Real Greens, and Socialists of Colorado – 237

Twitter -274

  • The New Progressive Alliance has rewritten our article on The Environment which was published in January 2022 to make it more user friendly with over 2,500 references. It is now much easier to research different categories such as global warming, coal, fossil fuel corruption and dishonesty, killing of environmentalists, water problems, and others. We have one central article on the environment with connections to NPA articles in the other 20 areas. Applicable references are in each of the articles on other areas of the environment and dead references were deleted.
  • In January we started the extensive process of going over all our references and deleting inactive connections.
  • In January we published the New Progressive Alliance article “Diminishing Transparency” with over 135 references.
  • In January we published a video calling for the release of Julian Assange who is in prison for practicing journalism.
  • In January we made Public Comment 236 opposing a California Solar Tax which would dramatically slow renewable energy.
  • In January the New Progressive Alliance welcomed Amnesty International and The Climate Reality Project as allies.
  • In January we published “15 Examples of Civil Disobedience (Which Have Made a Difference)” Making and supporting civil disobedience may be our only option. Extinction Rebellion is correct in this.
  • In January we published “2021: Year of Unprecedented Climate Impacts.” Climate change is happening dramatically right now and is getting worse.
  • In January the New Progressive Alliance made Public Comment 237 urging the U.S. Department of Energy to deal responsibly with the nuclear waste of Hanford in Washington state.
  • In February we with other organizations called for not getting involved in a war between Ukraine and Russia.
  • In February we published “Hedges: The Empire Does Not Forgive - The Americans, like the British and the Soviets before them, dug their own graveyard in Afghanistan.” It is a stern warning we are on the wrong path for both war and whistleblowers.
  • In February we published a New Progressive Alliance article to help people and organizations make their progressive case by using documentation which is continuously updated.
  • In February the New Progressive Alliance welcomed CREW and Open Secrets as allies.
  • In February we published the New Progressive Alliance article “Continuous Wars” with over 1,200 references.
  • In February we published an article showing how the bank Credit Suisse excluded financing for Whitehaven Coal.
  • In February we published an article by Chris Hedges where he clearly warned about the Russia-Ukraine war.
  • In February we published an article showing how renewable energy is important for ending war as well as saving the environment.
  • In March the New Progressive Alliance welcomed Urgewald as an ally. For over 25 years, Urgewald has been fighting against environmental destruction and for the rights of people harmed by corporate profit interests.
  • Fossil fuels thrive because they are supported by banks. In March the New Progressive Alliance again joined other organizations to call out banks for funding climate chaos and to endorse the Banking on Climate Chaos 2022 report. Last year’s report was endorsed by over 300 organizations from around the world, and has been used by activists, politicians, climate strikers, the media, and concerned bank shareholders to call out banks for their funding of climate destruction.
  • In March we published “Russia has become an overnight pariah. Banks should take rapid action to divest.”
  • In March we published “At Least 132 billion dollars in finance for fossil fuels is locking Africa out of a just transition, shows new report. African Countries kept in fossil fuel stranglehold by overseas money.”
  • In March we published “Why does Biden want to make the Chevron lawyer whose firm prosecuted Donziger a judge?” Biden’s real record on civil rights and the environment is not good.
  • In March we published “New IPCC report highlights urgency of climate change impacts - Scientific assessment warns that missing Paris targets would harm human health and biodiversity worldwide, and risk irreversible losses sooner than previously thought.” It was yet more scientific verification that we cannot keep putting off dealing with climate change.
  • In March we published “Climate change and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: A nexus?” which shows a clear connection between fossil fuel use and war.
  • In March we published the three articles “Afghanistan is on the brink of famine. How can Biden just forget about us?” “Beware the Biden Administration” and “Continuous Wars.” The record on wars for the past half century by the United States is shameful.
  • In March we published interviews with two climate scientists about the latest IPCC Report. There are many serious legitimate issues to be concerned with, but many scientists say climate change is the most dangerous.
  • In March we published the New Progressive Alliance article “The War on Whistleblowers” with over 520 references.
  • In March we published “Millions suffering in deadly pollution ‘sacrifice zones’, warns UN expert - Businesses blamed for rise of toxic hotspots hitting poor communities hardest” and the NPA article “Cost of Environmental Destruction” with over 200 references.
  • In March the New Progressive Alliance made Public Comment 238 which encouraged the DOT and NHTSA to allow cameras to substitute for side mirrors because of safety, economic competitiveness, and to encourage electric vehicles for the environment. Public Comment 238 may be found in full at http://www.newprogs.org/public_comments_2020_224
  • In March we started publishing at “Progressives, Real Greens, and Socialists of Colorado.”
  • In March we published an article by “Climate Scorecard” which identified the leading climate justice issues facing various countries. Climate change affects all countries and sooner rather than later.
  • In April we published “The Lie of American Innocence - Our hypocrisy on war crimes makes a rules-based world, one that abides by international law, impossible” by Chris Hedges.
  • In April we published two articles showing how bank funding of fossil fuels destroys our future. In 2021 banks funneled $185.5 billion into 100 companies doing the most to expand fossil fuel use.
  • In April we published an article documenting how fossil fuel companies are financing Russia’s war on the Ukraine.
  • In April we published the New Progressive Alliance article “Widespread Police Misconduct and an Expanding Prison Population” with over 720 references.
  • In April we published “American Commissars” by Chris Hedges. Social media platforms are aggressively censoring all who challenge the dominant narrative on Ukraine, the ruling Democratic Party, the wars in the Middle East and the corporate state.
  • In April the New Progressive Alliance in Public Comment 239 joined with other organizations urging Senate passage of the Periodically Listing Updates to Management Act (PLUM Act, S.857), which would increase transparency and oversight of the most senior leaders of the Executive Branch. The publication United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions, commonly called the Plum Book, is a congressional document published every four years that lists more than 9,000 political appointees. The PLUM Act, as amended, would modernize the Plum Book and annually publish online an updated directory of senior government leaders. The PLUM Act would resolve an important issue raised by the Government Accountability Office, which noted “there is no single source of data on political appointees serving in the executive branch that is publicly available, comprehensive, and timely.” It would address GAO’s conclusion that such a source of “information would facilitate congressional oversight and hold leaders accountable.”
  • In April we published “The Truth About Inflation: Why Milton Friedman Was Wrong, Again - As inflation fears return, it’s worth reminding ourselves of the real-world facts.” Many economic assumptions we operate under are just plain wrong.
  • In April the New Progressive Alliance with about 100 other organizations asked congress on behalf of the Clean Budget Coalition to be free from “Poison Pill Riders.” Public Comment 240 may be found in full at http://www.newprogs.org/public_comments_2020_224
  • In May we published articles showing the devastating effects of climate change in India and Pakistan as well the world’s continuing massive subsidizing of fossil fuels.
  • In May we published the New Progressive Alliance article “Corporate Overreach” with over 450 references. A disturbing trend is that both nationally and worldwide corporations are taxed less, able to move money outside the country where it is made, less subject to laws, less subject to disclosure, and dramatically contributing towards an unequal society. Both major parties eagerly contribute to this. The Supreme Court in a series of decisions without legal precedent - such as the 2010 Citizens United case, McCutcheon, Hobby Lobby and others – also speed this disastrous approach.
  • In May we published “March 2022: Earth’s 5th-warmest March on record - The month featured a $4 billion flood and a mass coral bleaching event in Australia, and an extreme heat wave in Antarctica.”  Time is short to deal with climate change.
  • In May we published “The Age of Self-Delusion” by Chris Hedges which showed how the US and Russia, faded relics of the Cold War, unable to accept their terminal decline, launch futile and self-defeating wars to reclaim their lost imperial power.
  • In May we published “Climate activist's fight against 'terrorism' sentence could impact the future of protests.” This raises troubling questions on both civil rights and the environment.
  • In May we published “How the oil and gas industry is trying to hold US public schools hostage.”
  • In May we published “How There’s More to Economics Than the Science of Scarcity - Economic life as experienced was increasingly pushed out of view to make the chosen methods work.” Many economic theories are just plainly wrong.
  • In May we published “Jesus, Endless War, and the Rise of American Fascism” by Chris Hedges. One should take the Democratic Party with more than a little bit of skepticism.
  • In May we published “(Nearly) Everyone says it’s Crazy — Why are Governments Struggling to Change Fossil Fuel Subsidies?” We also published for documentation “Cost of Fossil Fuel Subsidies” with over 80 references. If you want out of a hole then you should stop digging. Why then are governments still massively subsidizing fossil fuels?
  • In May the New Progressive Alliance joined organizations around the country with Public Comment 241 in encouraging insurance companies to not support drilling in the Arctic.
  • In May we published “Climate chaos certain if oil and gas mega-projects go ahead, warns IEA chief - Fatih Birol says ‘carbon bombs’, revealed in Guardian investigation, will not solve global energy crisis.” Fossil fuel expansion is not the answer and will make matters much worse.
  • In June we published “No Way Out but War - Permanent war has cannibalized the country. It has created a social, political, and economic morass. Each new military debacle is another nail in the coffin of Pax Americana” by Chris Hedges. We are making poor choices.
  • In June we published “Climate Scorecard Ratings by Country.” Some countries are more serious than others about our climate future.
  • In June we published our NPA article “Civil Rights” with over 680 references. We do not become a safer or stronger nation through civil rights violations. We all should be concerned about the ever increasing number of rights we are losing that this article documents.
  • In June we published “Gold rush for gas production threatens to lock in global heating.” A new dash for gas driven by energy disruption and rising prices spurns warnings to cease exploration to meet 1.5 heating limit. This is exactly the wrong thing to do.
  • In June we published “Wind and solar power are 'bailing out' Texas amid record heat and energy demand.” Renewable energy is cheaper and more reliable than fossil fuels.
  • In June we published YouTube “The CIA plot to SILENCE Assange is real and it's terrifying” and the NPA article on whistleblowers with over 520 references. We need to evaluate who our real heroes are. We need to acknowledge those who reveal a crime are not worse criminals than those who commit a crime.
  • In June we published “The Triumph of Death” by Chris Hedges who has documented troubling trends for years.
  • In June we published “Sick and struggling to pay, 100 million people in the U.S. live with medical debt” and the NPA article “Healthcare” has over 350 references. We pay more than any other industrialized country but have the least to show for it both in terms of health and coverage.
  • In June we published “It’s Time To Stop Fixing the Old and Start Building the New.” It is past time to start making a change.
  • In July we published the YouTube video “Fossil Fuel subsidies and poverty” as well as the NPA article “Cost of Fossil Fuel Subsidies” with over 80 references. These two articles show governments worldwide pay far more for fossil fuels than renewable energy.
  • In July we published “Fascists In Our Midst.” Dangers to our civil rights and constitutional republic go far beyond the overturning of Roe vs. Wade.
  • In July we published stories showing unarmed people of color who were murdered by police were thugs but an armed mass shooter who was white was a “cub scout.”
  • DISH recently requested from the FCC rule changes for the 12 GHz Spectrum which would substantially and greatly interfere with Starlink and other applications giving citizens access to internet by speculative and poorly-defined technologies and individuals who have no clear plans to help close the digital divide. In July the New Progressive Alliance opposed this with Public Comment 242 which contained comments to Congress and the Federal Communication Commission. Public Comment 242 which may be found in full at http://www.newprogs.org/public_comments_2020_224
  • In July we published our NPA article “The Economy” with a companion article “Economic Graphs and Videos” with a combined number of over 1,750 references. Though economics is a dry subject, there is a very real human cost to getting economic policy wrong.
  • Future generations will realize this was our most important issue. Will we? These articles clearly lay out the danger of environmental destruction if we continue on the road we are on. In July we published the following articles.

-A failure of humanity’: World’s poorest countries contend with climate disasters caused by the richest nations

-Cost of Environmental Destruction” with over 200 references.

-Deaths, Costs of Climate-Linked Disasters May Be Grossly Undercounted

-Chili peppers, coffee, wine: how the climate crisis is causing food shortages

-California Towns Scramble to Prevent Next Wildfire Catastrophe

  • In July we published, “The criticality of climate finance for Africa.” Solving climate change is a worldwide problem.
  • In July we published “How the Supreme Court Is Rebranding Corruption.” This will have long term consequences.
  • In July we published “Chris Hedges, Edward Snowden, Noam Chomsky, Glenn Greenwald, Paul Jay & Daniel Ellsberg on Assange” as well as the New Progressive Alliance article “The War on Whistleblowers” with over 520 references. Much is at stake on the illegal prosecution of whistleblowers.
  • In July we published “The nexus between the climate change and democracy crises.” Stakes are high for the future of our planet and for democracy.
  • In July we published an “Honest Government Ad” about the dangerous direction the United States Supreme Court was headed.
  • In August we published “Pseudo-Journalists Are Attacking Elon Musk with Lies, but the Harm Is Very Real.” Musk, though imperfect, has done more tangible measurable good in fighting climate change than any other person or organization. His four companies all work to solve the problems of humanity. And yet some democrats and the fossil fuel industry try to persuade us that he is evil and "journalists" eagerly spread the lies.
  • In August we published our NPA article “Education” with over 940 references. A decline in public education and making higher education largely unaffordable except to those willing to become indentured servants for most of their lives means we are becoming more and more like a third world country. The very idea of fully funded public education has been declining for some time. Charter schools are being used as a weapon to defund public schools. This will have a calamitous effect on our future if not reversed.
  • In August we published “Hundreds Dead from Heat as Extreme Temperatures Scorch North Africa, Asia, Europe, China,” the NPA article “Cost of Environmental Destruction” with over 200 references, “The Dawn of the Apocalypse - We were warned for decades about the death march we are on because of global warming. And yet, the global ruling class continues to frog-march us towards extinction” and “Climate Change: Famines and the Food Crisis.” We are headed for a disastrous irreversible climate disaster if we do not change course soon. Time is short.
  • In August we published “Greenwashing at Its Finest: How Corporations Use Environmental Concerns to Scam You,” the NPA article “Fossil Fuel Companies Lie,” and “The audacious PR plot that seeded doubt about climate change,” and “Leaked: US power companies secretly spending millions to protect profits and fight clean energy.” These articles show Fossil Fuel companies are being outrageously dishonest.
  • In August we published “America Aspires to One Day in the Far Future Build Rail Service Worse Than It Was in the 1940s - Amtrak has a bold vision for the future: slower trains than the days before color television.” The United States is falling behind the rest of the world in infrastructure.
  • In August we published a video showing the same interests that lied to us about tobacco and cancer are lying about climate change.
  • In August we published “Nightly News Fails to Connect Gas Price Surge and Climate Crisis.” Why can’t the news media just do its job?
  • In August we posted an honest government ad about the United Kingdom. One of many points is that renewable energy is cheaper and more reliable than fossil fuels.
  • In September we published our NPA article on the environment which is continuously updated. Future generations will correctly regard the environment as the most important issue we faced. This article has over 2,500 references collected over the years and is being continually updated. It shows the science is settled and covers 20 different environmental aspects.
  • In September we published “How Many People Must Starve Before It’s News?” It is bewildering why mass starvation, crop shortages, floods, droughts, climate refugees, and climate caused power outages are not being reported.
  • In September we published “The carbon footprint fixation is getting out of hand.” It is governments and big corporations rather than individuals who are to blame and must reform.
  • In September we published “Electrifying transportation reduces emissions AND saves massive amounts of energy.  Electric vehicles are far more energy-efficient than traditional internal combustion vehicles” and the NPA article “We can power with renewable energy right now” with over 335 references. These articles clearly show that we are not doomed by climate change and there are solutions.
  • In September we published information about two webinars for “Climate Action Tracker” and “Defund Deforestation.”
  • In September we published “The Chris Hedges Report: Why did Democrats give this pro-Trump GOP primary candidate $425,000?” and the NPA article “The Democratic Party is the More Effective of Two Evils.” While there may be little choice many times this November, these two articles show we need to remain skeptical about the democrats.
  • In September we published 'Betrayal and injustice': U.N. secretary-general says global climate change response is falling short.” Why can’t we read the obvious signs?
  • In September we published “Empirically grounded technology forecasts and the energy transition.” This extensive study conclusively shows rapid green energy transition will likely result in trillions of dollars in savings.
  • In September we published “Lithium: Storing more clean power with less pollution. Lithium mining is much cleaner than coal mining.” All mining is not the same and all manufacturing is not bad. We need to make hard focused decisions to avoid the worst of climate change.
  • In October we published “American policy is splitting, state by state, into two blocs - This will have profound implications for the union” and our NPA article on election reform with over 625 references. Our democracy is at peril. In a system where money equals speech, the rich can afford to drown out the rest. These two articles show the need for change and a path forward.
  • In October we published “More than 1,700 environmental activists murdered in the past decade.” Future generations will judge us harshly.
  • In October we published "Strike, Strike, Strike" by Chris Hedges. Labor is important.
  • The New Progressive Alliance focuses on issues and seldom endorses candidates anymore. In October Gary Swing and Lula became the only two candidates we endorsed in 2022.

Gary Swing earned his sixth endorsement by the New Progressive Alliance, more than any other candidate. His website is here. He has written articles on the need for electoral reform in Arizona, Colorado, and nationally as well as having run for office in both Arizona and Colorado. The NPA proudly endorses Gary Swing for Colorado Secretary of State. Gary Swing lost, but his campaign was successful in showing the need for electoral reform.

The New Progressive Alliance endorses Lula for President of Brazil. It is no exaggeration to say the survival of the Amazon basin - critical for fighting global warming - may depend on the ultimate election of Lula and defeat of Bolsonaro. Lula was elected President of Brazil in a run off.

  • In October we published "Let's Stop Pretending America is a Functioning Democracy." We need to take a hard look at our election system.
  • In October we published a Chris Hedges Report on Julian Assange. The imprisonment of whistleblowers endangers all of us.
  • In October we published “Scientist Michael Mann expresses hope.” The disastrous effects of climate change – massive property damage and loss of life from flooding, food shortages, droughts, wildfires, and ever worsening storms - are here with us right now and they are only going to get worse. The climate situation is serious but nor hopeless.
  • In October we published an Honest Government Ad about Brazil. What Brazil does on the climate affects us all.
  • In October we published the New Progressive Alliance article “Killing and Harassment of Environmentalists is Increasing” with over 50 references and “UK climate activists held in jail for up to six months before trial - Campaigners say protesters arrested for blocking roads getting ‘lost in prison system’ while on remand.”  These two articles show the increasing danger environmentalists face.
  • In October we published the YouTube video “Studies PROVE 100% Renewables is possible” and the NPA article “We can power with renewable energy right now” with hundreds of references. These two sources clearly show transferring to renewable energy is both possible and affordable.
  • In October we published “They Crush Our Song for A Reason.” Education has taken a beating.
  • In November we published our NPA article on healthcare with over 350 references. We pay more than any other industrialized country but have the least to show for it both in terms of health and coverage.
  • In November we published “Rather than an endlessly reheated nuclear debate, politicians should be powered by the evidence.”
  • In November we published “Leaders or laggards? Report analyzes net-zero pledges of US banks - Commitments, actions from 6 biggest banks fall far short of what’s needed for global climate goals.” US banks remain the biggest fossil fuel financiers in the world. This is disgraceful in light of global climate change.
  • In November we published “We can power with renewable energy right now” with over 370 references. Despite demonstrable lies by fossil fuel companies and the banks and insurance companies which support them, not only can we power 100% with renewable energy right now, it is the least expensive option.
  • In November we published an “Honest Government Ad: Visit Western Australia.” Fossil Fuel companies capturing government agencies are a worldwide problem.
  • In November we published “The climate crisis explained in 10 charts.” This is a great summary!
  • In November the New Progressive Alliance welcomed Climate Analytics and New Climate Institute as allies. We welcome documentation to deal with the serious problem of climate change. All New Progressive Alliance allies and connections to their websites are listed here: http://www.newprogs.org/allies
  • The United Nations yearly meeting on the climate, COP27, concluded in November. As Dr. Mann and Susan Hassol said, we must “be able to wrap our minds around two seemingly opposing realities: We are making substantial progress, and yet it’s wholly insufficient to the scale of the challenge.” While certainly inadequate and replete with greenwashing and hypocrisy it was not a complete waste of time. The New Progressive Alliance is in special consultative status with the U.N. Economic and Social Council and we trace the history of COP here: https://www.newprogs.org/make_your_case_with_the_2015_united_nations_climate_change_conference
  • In December we published our NPA article on our crumbling infrastructure with over 115 references. The basis for our economy and prosperity is our infrastructure. The tragedy of our declining educational system, internet, power grid, roads, and bridges will take years to correct and we are already far behind other countries.
  • In December we published “Biden Is Breaking His Sick Leave Promise To Crush Rail Workers” and “Democrats Screw Over Rail Workers HARD.” These two articles show Biden only pretends to be pro-labor and pro-union.
  • In December we published “Elon Musk Just EXPOSED Twitter’s Collusion w/Govt To Suppress Speech.” This is a threat that goes far beyond helping any particular political party.
  • In December we published “THEY ALL, LIE, LIE, LIE.” Legacy automakers have continuously lied and falsified information.
  • In December we published the NPA article “Cost of Fossil Fuel Subsidies” with over 80 references and “Nordic banks increase finance for Arctic oil and gas…US spends 21.2 billion in financing for fossil fuel industry since 2020.” Pay Outs to fossil fuel companies far exceed anything for renewable energy.
  • In December we published the YouTube video “Things Get HEATED: All In Besties CLASH Over Elon Musk’s Twitter Files” along with the New Progressive Alliance article “Corrupt Media” which describes the dramatic decrease in both the power and effectiveness of the public media with over 865 references. Though a democratic republic demands a free press to function properly, these two sources show there has been an alarming decline in this area.
  • In December we published the Australian Honest Government Ad “The Rental Crisis.” The same policies in the United States produce the same devastating results for the poor.
  • In December we published “Know Thine Enemy” by Chris Hedges. The plight of labor is declining and the democrats are not our friends.
  • In December the New Progressive Alliance along with 167 other organizations wrote to every member of Congress to urge them to avoid default which would bring unnecessary hardship to our citizens. Public Comment 243 may be found in full at http://www.newprogs.org/public_comments_2020_224
  • In December the New Progressive Alliance along with 106 other organizations wrote to every member of Congress to urge them to stop biomass poison pill riders. Public Comment 244 may be found in full at http://www.newprogs.org/public_comments_2020_224
  • The New Progressive Alliance summarized all its 2022 activities on the 2022 Annual Report at https://www.newprogs.org/more
