At this moment we are strong with more than a quarter-million members. I hope that by presenting you with this draft outline we can all work on securing key points for the Party’s 2020 federal slate to commitment to work on.
Green Positioning System 2020 (GPS 2020) is a tool that will allow the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) to easily and safely navigate without draining ourselves in 2020. We Greens will add ease to our activities shave time off to building our Green political party and grass movement nationally and keep on track of our goals while we build through an area.
We Greens must focus our campaign on building and strengthening every state Green Party’s development. We must enable every Green to boldly articulate our mantra for long-term sustainability to build the Green Party in the long term. GPS 2020 is a part of the Green Ambassadors 2020 (GA20) orientation we each must undergo to ensure every one of us is well verse in our 10 Key Values and Four Pillars practical application to electoral politics.
A critical aspect of pressing the Party’s agenda is considering that the Green Party’s formal campaign for the Presidential election messaging should consistently remind Greens and others of the Presidential campaign primary goals. I believe that our beloved Green Party should include the following twenty one items as our major campaign platform.

Eco-Socialist Green Party Presidential Candidate 2020
(1) Ensure that the Green Party is qualified to appear on the ballot in all 50 states and voting territories: https://www.gp.org/ballot_access
RATIONALE
As a result of the encouraging performance of the 2016 Green Party Presidential candidate, state Green Parties have been able to maintain ballot access in 21 states. This is a positive outcome. The Green Party achieved more post-election ballot lines than in more than a decade!
While encouraging, we still have work to do! Many states still require that the Green Party run candidates for office in order to maintain that ballot line for the 2020 Presidential Election. In states that do not currently have ballot lines, the Party must petition and run candidates in 2019 / 2020. Retain state ballot lines that only because GP nominates a Presidential nominee at our National Convention and file the appropriate paper work with their state Secretary of State. Please note the considerations below:
- Dr. Jill Stein lost Texas ballot access in 2016;
- At the very least in 2020, the Green Party should strategize to consider surpassing Dr. Stein's 2016 total. Although commendable, we must undertake an extended and ambitious goal;
- Ballot access may be very difficult in a few states; the Party must be active and strategic to overcome anticipated hurdles in a few states.
(2) The principal aim of the Green Party of the United States is to build the capacity of every state and local Green Party.
ACTION STEPS
- Identification: Research and enlist Green Party members who can successfully contest and win a position; the Party minimum is to successfully contest three U.S. House of Representatives and nine U.S. state legislative races;
- Promotion: Recruit a potential 2022 candidate for every Congressional district and every Senate seat; engage competitive candidates with a goal of contesting half of all state legislative races in every state for the next election cycle;
- Expansion: Start and support a state Green Party in every U.S. state; in states where there currently is a state office, the national Party will support identifying and supporting credible and competitive Greens positioning elected officials for increasingly greater positions of influence. We want to support the candidacy of Green Party representatives who aspire to local leadership (city, county, commissions, etc.) in every state where the Green Party has a presence.
(3) Secure the largest number of Green Party members to seek political office (elected and appointed). Expand the Green Party story to include a large-scale, all-out Campaign focused on Candidate Recruitment and Support to run on "Green values." A motivational statement could “We Green.”
(4) All Green Party Presidential Campaign members must communicate to ensure the message continuity of our platform, “Special Emphasis: 10 Key Values and Pillars for all People of Color (P.O.C) in the USA.”
We Greens have not yet figured out a clear long-term vision for ourselves, folks of color have not joined our political party on a massive basis on any level (national, state and local.)
(5) Rank-Choice Voting: Ranked-choice voting campaigns can be extremely helpful in building the Green Party at the state and local levels if Greens assume leadership in ranked-choice voting states.
Identify states that currently have citizen initiative and referendum procedures to obtain ranked-choice voting initiative on the ballot and join them.
(6) Green Party Black Caucus Monthly Presidential Debate Series
Must be sponsored by all Greens
(7) The Green Party will work to secure a 15 % polling level with Americans to secure inclusion of our Presidential nominee’s place at the nationally televised Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates, as well as to ensure equitable participation in national media and all other debate opportunities offered.
(8) The Green Party will work to secure the highest votes received in 2020 by our federal, state and local slates from fellow Americans voters given that our Party is a non-corporate funded political party. This strategy will ensure Green Party ballot access for in many states.
(9) Compel Green Party members to raise adequate funds to qualify for federal matching funds (in the "right states").
(10) The Green Party must raise enough money for national television and other media advertising.
(11) Enable each Presidential Candidate to conduct a minimum of one and preferably multiple campaign visits to all 50 states plus Washington, DC.
(12) Describe the Green Party’s commitment to a comprehensive and winning strategy to successfully contest the 2020 Presidential national election and electoral college votes in November. STRATEGY: Build on the facts
