Make your case with Art!

Where logic and statistics do not sway people, sometimes art such as plays, songs, or other media can. See Make Your Case! number two.

Our founder, Anthony Noel, said, "One of the least-appreciated musicians of our time (there are so many), Graham Parker, wrote a song many years ago which, like Hunter S. Thompson's cautionary quote about what ails American politics, explains mankind's propensity for paying too much attention to what doesn't matter and too little mind to what does.

My holiday gift to the NPA are the below lyrics of, and this link to, Parker's (completely infectious) recording of "Don't Ask Me Questions," 12 lines of prose which explain exactly where we are and what got us here--and which includes what I consider one of the best guitar leads ever recorded. Enjoy--at maximum volume.

Also Graham Parker was often attacked by the Left as being anti-abortion for this song, "You Can't Be Too Strong." In fact he is pro-choice, and the song is about one of the seldom-mentioned but lasting effects of our military's overseas bases on the local populations surrounding them.

I'm an old prog-rock DJ from way back, and have long believed efforts to change our country would go a lot further if they were grounded in music.

I bid all a peaceful holiday season and contentedness in 2017."

"Crimson autograph is what we leave behind
Everywhere man set foot
War mongers laughing loud behind a painted face
Throwing tidbits to the crowd then blowing up the place

Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions please
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord ain't no answer in me

Well I stand up for liberty but can't liberate
Pent up agony I see you take first place
Well who does this treachery I shout with bleeding hand
Is it you or is it me well I never will understand

Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions please
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord ain't no answer in me

Well I see the thousands screaming rushing for the cliffs
Just like lemmings into the sea, Well well well
Who waves his mighty hand and breaks the precious rules?
Well the same one must understand who wasted all these fools

Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions please
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord don't ask me questions
Hey Lord ain't no answer in me

Ain't no answer in me no
Ain't no answer in me
Uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh"
