One of the main thrusts of the populist movement was their demand to have the government issue more Greenbacks, to fund schools, libraries, rural roads, bridges and utilities, which would have provided millions of jobs debt free.

Greenbacks, issued to save the nation from dissolution in the Civil War, is publicly issued money recorded on the books as an asset. They understood the insanity of allowing the private banks to issue the nation's money as interest bearing debt and understood that this concentrates wealth at the top. THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE before we can really do much else. The primary responsibility of government is to issue the money because if it does not then it becomes a tool in the hands of those who do. That is what the populists were fighting against, that is what the American Revolution was about as Ben Franklin described;

“The viability of the colonists to get power to issue their own money permanently out of the hands of King George III and the international bankers was the prime reason for the revolutionary war.”

THIS is the task still before us today. With public (sovereign) money we can fund everything we need to fund and do it debt free. This is in the GP platform, it is what HR2990, the NEED Act would do.  Unfortunately and apparently most Americans have been so dumbed down they are unable to grasp this yet, as John Kenneth Galbraith said, it is "...so simple it repels the mind." However, we can no longer afford to ignore the simple fact that money is about power and power should not be in the hands of what Cynthia McKinney calls the Deep State," the international banker's network, the wealthy few who control all government's purse's through their system. Until we grasp this most important of concepts we will not even repeat history for it will be lost. As former Green candidate for NY governor, Howie Hawkins said recently, "We need to pick this ball up and run with it." Please join me and the Greens in pushing this important understanding forward.
